fractional flow reserve
Physiological measurement of coronary stenosis severity using pressure-wire assessment.
Full Definition
A diagnostic technique that measures the ratio of distal coronary pressure to aortic pressure during maximal hyperemia to determine the functional significance of coronary artery stenoses. Fractional flow reserve provides objective assessment of whether a coronary lesion causes ischemia and guides decisions about revascularization. A value ≤0.80 is generally considered indicative of hemodynamically significant stenosis requiring intervention.
Usage
Usage note: May be abbreviated as FFR after first use; always include numerical value.
