hemodynamic compromise

Clinical state where circulation is inadequate to maintain organ perfusion and blood pressure.

Full Definition

A critical condition in emergency cardiology characterized by inadequate circulatory function to meet metabolic demands of tissues and organs. Clinical manifestations include hypotension, altered mental status, decreased urine output, and signs of poor peripheral perfusion such as cool extremities or delayed capillary refill. Hemodynamic compromise may result from various cardiac conditions including arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, or mechanical complications. Recognition triggers urgent intervention to restore adequate circulation and prevent organ failure.

Usage

Usage note: Prefer 'hemodynamic compromise' over 'hemodynamically unstable' in formal documentation.
