myocardial blush grade

Angiographic assessment of microvascular perfusion using contrast opacification of myocardium.

Full Definition

Myocardial blush grade (MBG) is an angiographic scoring system that evaluates microvascular perfusion by assessing the intensity and persistence of contrast opacification within the myocardium during coronary angiography. The grade ranges from 0 (no blush) to 3 (normal blush that clears completely). MBG provides information about tissue-level perfusion that complements TIMI flow grade assessment of epicardial vessel patency. Poor myocardial blush despite good epicardial flow indicates microvascular dysfunction and is associated with worse clinical outcomes.

Usage

Usage note: Scale ranges from 0-3; assess several cardiac cycles for accurate grading.

In Context

  • "Final angiography showed TIMI 3 flow but myocardial blush grade 1 indicating microvascular dysfunction." — Cardiac catheterization report
  • "The patient achieved MBG 3 suggesting excellent tissue-level reperfusion." — Interventional cardiology note
