intraoperative hypotension

Abnormally low blood pressure during surgery that may compromise organ perfusion and patient safety.

Full Definition

A perioperative complication characterized by sustained blood pressure below normal physiological ranges during surgical procedures, typically defined as systolic pressure less than 90 mmHg or mean arterial pressure below 65 mmHg. In emergency surgery, intraoperative hypotension may result from ongoing blood loss, anesthetic effects, or underlying shock states. Prompt recognition and treatment are essential to prevent end-organ damage and optimize surgical outcomes.

Usage note: Document duration, lowest pressure recorded, and interventions used for management.
