An intraoperative technique involving the injection of methylene blue dye to help identify parathyroid adenomas and distinguish them from normal parathyroid tissue during surgery. The dye is typically administered intravenously 15-30 minutes before the procedure and preferentially accumulates in hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue. While this technique can aid in localization, it has largely been replaced by more reliable methods such as intraoperative PTH monitoring and improved imaging techniques due to inconsistent staining patterns and potential complications.
