Bioceramic Sealer

A calcium silicate–based root canal sealer with bioactive and biocompatible properties, designed to bond to both dentinal walls and core filling materials via a hydraulic setting mechanism.

Bioceramic sealers (e.g., iRoot SP, TotalFill BC Sealer, BioRoot RCS) represent a newer class of endodontic sealers formulated from calcium silicate, calcium phosphate, and zirconium oxide. They set in the presence of moisture, produce hydroxyapatite upon setting (promoting chemical bonding to dentine), and have demonstrated antimicrobial activity. In editorial use, 'bioceramic' is written as a single unhyphenated word; 'bio-ceramic' is a common error that should be corrected. Editors must distinguish bioceramics from resin-based sealers (e.g., AH Plus) and zinc oxide–eugenol sealers, as their properties and handling differ significantly in study methodology descriptions.
