Non-epileptic events are episodic behaviors or experiences that may mimic epileptic seizures but are not associated with abnormal synchronous neuronal discharge. These include psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES), physiologic non-epileptic events such as syncope or movement disorders, and other medical conditions. Differentiation from true epileptic seizures requires detailed history, video-EEG monitoring, and sometimes additional testing. Accurate diagnosis is crucial as treatment approaches differ significantly, and misdiagnosis can lead to inappropriate antiseizure medication use and delayed appropriate intervention.
