Full Definition

Intraamniotic pressure refers to the hydrostatic pressure within the amniotic cavity, which must be carefully monitored and controlled during fetal surgical procedures. Elevated pressure can compromise uteroplacental blood flow and fetal circulation, while low pressure may indicate oligohydramnios or amniotic fluid loss. During minimally invasive fetal procedures, CO2 insufflation is often used to create a working space while monitoring intraamniotic pressure to prevent maternal or fetal compromise. Pressure monitoring is critical for safe completion of complex fetal interventions.
