A reconstructive surgical procedure that enlarges the pyloric channel to improve gastric emptying, typically performed using the Heineke-Mikulicz, Finney, or Jaboulay techniques. Most commonly indicated in conjunction with vagotomy for refractory peptic ulcer disease or as treatment for gastric outlet obstruction. The procedure involves dividing the pyloric muscle and reconstructing the opening in a way that prevents stenosis while maintaining function. Modern indications have decreased with effective medical management of peptic ulcer disease.
