Reverse remodeling refers to the favorable structural and functional changes that occur in the heart following effective treatment of heart failure, myocardial infarction, or other cardiac pathology. This process involves regression of ventricular hypertrophy, reduction in chamber dimensions, improvement in ejection fraction, and restoration of more normal cardiac geometry. In geriatric cardiology, reverse remodeling may be less pronounced or occur more slowly due to age-related factors, comorbidities, and the chronicity of disease. However, when achieved, it correlates with improved symptoms, functional capacity, and prognosis in elderly patients.
