Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) encompasses a spectrum of interrelated pregnancy-associated tumors that arise from abnormal proliferation of placental trophoblastic tissue. This group includes hydatidiform moles (complete and partial), invasive moles, choriocarcinoma, and placental site trophoblastic tumor. GTN is characterized by abnormal production of human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG), which serves as both a diagnostic marker and a tool for monitoring treatment response. While these tumors can be highly malignant, they are generally very responsive to chemotherapy, with cure rates exceeding 95% when appropriately managed with multidisciplinary care including specialized monitoring and treatment protocols.
