A parametrial boost is an additional radiation dose specifically targeted to the parametrial tissues (the connective tissue adjacent to the cervix and upper vagina) following completion of the primary radiation treatment course. This technique is commonly used in the definitive treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer when there is concern for parametrial involvement or when attempting to maximize local control. The boost can be delivered using external beam radiation therapy techniques or brachytherapy, depending on the clinical scenario and institutional preferences.
