Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female reproductive organs including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. It typically results from untreated sexually transmitted infections and can lead to serious complications such as tubo-ovarian abscesses, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. When medical management fails, surgical intervention may be necessary, ranging from drainage procedures to removal of affected organs.
