A cross-finger flap is a versatile reconstructive technique that uses skin from the dorsum of an adjacent finger to cover soft tissue defects on the volar aspect of an injured finger. The flap maintains its blood supply through the subcutaneous plexus while being transferred across to the recipient finger. This creates a temporary connection between two digits for approximately 10-14 days before the flap is divided and inset. The technique is particularly useful for fingertip injuries, pulp defects, and volar soft tissue loss where local tissue options are inadequate. The donor site typically requires skin grafting.
