The thenar space is one of the deep fascial spaces of the palm, located on the radial side of the hand between the thenar muscles and the flexor tendons of the index finger. This potential space is bounded dorsally by the adductor pollicis muscle and palmarly by the flexor tendons and their synovial sheaths. Infections in the thenar space can occur following penetrating trauma or spread from adjacent structures, resulting in significant swelling of the thenar eminence and loss of the normal palmar concavity. Prompt surgical drainage is essential to prevent spread to adjacent spaces or development of chronic complications.
