The da Vinci surgical system is most commonly used, providing enhanced visualization through high-definition 3D optics and improved dexterity through wristed instruments that can maneuver in tight anatomical spaces. TORS is particularly useful for oropharyngeal cancers, including tonsil and base of tongue tumors, as well as select supraglottic laryngeal lesions. The technique offers potential advantages including reduced morbidity, shorter hospital stays, and improved functional outcomes compared to open surgical approaches. However, patient selection is crucial, and the procedure requires specialized training and equipment. The approach has revolutionized treatment of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers by enabling precise tumor resection while preserving surrounding normal tissues.
