An electrochemiluminescent immunoassay (ECLIA) is an advanced analytical technique that combines electrochemistry with chemiluminescence to detect and quantify hormones and other biomarkers. The assay uses ruthenium chelate labels that emit light when electrochemically stimulated at the electrode surface. This technology offers several advantages including wide dynamic ranges, excellent precision, minimal matrix effects, and the ability to perform multiple measurements from a single sample. ECLIA is widely implemented in automated hormone analyzers for measuring thyroid hormones, reproductive hormones, tumor markers, and cardiac markers. The method provides rapid results with high throughput capability, making it ideal for routine clinical hormone testing.
