Immediate implant placement (Type 1 placement in the ITI classification) places the implant fixture directly into the alveolus immediately after extraction. The technique is intended to reduce the number of surgical visits and limit alveolar bone resorption. Achieving primary stability in the apical bone and managing the gap between the implant and socket walls are critical surgical considerations. Editors should not conflate this with 'immediate loading,' which refers to when a restoration is attached to an already-placed implant; an immediately placed implant may or may not be immediately loaded.

Usage note: Per ITI nomenclature, clarify the placement timing type (Type 1–4) wherever precision is required; 'immediate' should not be used generically to mean 'soon after extraction.'
