ISQ

Also written as: ISQ — Implant Stability Quotient

Implant Stability Quotient; a dimensionless numerical scale (1–100) measuring the resonance frequency of an implant-bone interface to quantify primary and secondary stability.

Full Definition

ISQ stands for Implant Stability Quotient and is derived from Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA), a non-invasive diagnostic method using a transducer (Osstell device) attached to a SmartPeg on the implant. Values are recorded on a scale of 1 to 100, where higher values indicate greater implant stability. ISQ readings are used to determine optimal implant loading protocols and to monitor osseointegration progress over time. In clinical documents, ISQ should always be capitalised and followed by a numerical value with units omitted (e.g., 'ISQ 72'). Editors should not expand the acronym to 'implant stability quotient' on every mention after first reference.

Usage

Usage note: Expand to 'Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ)' on first use in any document. Report numeric values immediately after the acronym without an equals sign or units (e.g., 'ISQ 74', not 'ISQ = 74').

In Context

  • "An ISQ of 68 was recorded immediately post-placement, rising to 76 at the eight-week follow-up." — Implant stability monitoring log
  • "The clinician deferred loading after recording an ISQ below 60 at the time of fixture placement." — Clinical decision protocol
