Pink Aesthetic Score

Also written as: PAS — Pink Aesthetic Score

A validated index used to evaluate the soft-tissue aesthetic outcome around implant-supported restorations, assessing parameters such as papilla height, mucosal level, and tissue color.

Full Definition

The Pink Aesthetic Score (PAS) was introduced by Fürhauser et al. to provide a reproducible, objective measure of peri-implant soft-tissue appearance. It evaluates seven variables—mesial papilla, distal papilla, curvature of the facial mucosa, level of the facial mucosa, root convexity or soft-tissue color and texture—each scored 0–2, yielding a maximum of 14. PAS is frequently reported alongside the White Aesthetic Score (WES) in implant outcome studies. Editors should retain the capital letters in 'Pink Aesthetic Score' and its abbreviation 'PAS' when both scores appear in the same article to avoid reader confusion.

Usage

Usage note: Always define PAS on first use alongside WES if both appear; avoid using 'aesthetic score' alone when both indices are discussed.
