These large-bore catheters (typically 6-8 French) feature specific curve shapes designed to engage the left or right coronary ostia, with common configurations including Judkins Left, Judkins Right, Amplatz Left, and specialized shapes for complex anatomy. Guide catheters must provide adequate backup support for device delivery while maintaining coronary perfusion and avoiding vessel trauma. The selection depends on coronary anatomy, vessel tortuosity, anticipated equipment needs, and operator preference. Modern guide catheters incorporate hydrophilic coatings and radiopaque markers to enhance performance and visibility during procedures.
