Full Definition
A flexible silicone tube surgically implanted into the peritoneal cavity to enable peritoneal dialysis for patients with end-stage renal disease. Laparoscopic placement offers advantages over open surgical techniques, including direct visualization of catheter positioning, ability to lyse adhesions, and reduced postoperative complications. The catheter typically has a cuffed design with multiple side holes for optimal dialysate flow and is positioned in the pelvis for best drainage.
