Port site hernia is a postoperative complication where abdominal wall weakness develops at trocar insertion sites, allowing internal organs or tissues to protrude through the fascial defect. This complication most commonly occurs at umbilical port sites or ports larger than 10mm in diameter. Risk factors include inadequate fascial closure, excessive trocar manipulation, infection, and patient factors such as obesity or compromised tissue healing. Prevention involves proper fascial closure techniques and appropriate trocar removal protocols.
