Uterine rupture

Complete separation through all layers of the uterine wall during pregnancy or labor.

Full Definition

A rare but catastrophic obstetric emergency occurring in 0.3-0.7% of pregnancies, involving complete disruption of all uterine wall layers including the endometrium, myometrium, and serosa. This condition can result in massive hemorrhage, fetal death, and maternal mortality. Risk factors include previous cesarean delivery, uterine surgery, high parity, and obstructed labor. Immediate surgical intervention is required.
