BRMS1 (breast cancer metastasis suppressor 1) is a gene that encodes a protein involved in suppressing metastatic spread of cancer cells. Originally identified in breast cancer research, BRMS1 expression levels correlate with metastatic potential across multiple cancer types. Low BRMS1 expression is associated with increased risk of metastasis, while high expression suggests better prognosis. The gene functions through regulation of gene transcription and chromatin remodeling. In clinical documentation, BRMS1 status may inform prognosis and treatment decisions.
