Full Definition
The GAF score ranges from 1-100 and provides a clinician's judgment of overall functioning level. Higher scores indicate better functioning. Though removed from DSM-5, GAF scores appear frequently in insurance documentation, disability assessments, and legal proceedings. Editors should note that GAF is always capitalized and typically followed by a specific numeric value.
