Fulgurant is an electrosurgical technique that creates electrical sparks between the electrode and tissue surface, resulting in superficial tissue destruction and hemostasis without deep penetration. This mode is particularly useful in laparoscopic surgery for treating superficial bleeding points, destroying small lesions, or achieving hemostasis on tissue surfaces. The sparking action carbonizes tissue surface proteins while limiting thermal spread to deeper structures, making it safer than other electrocautery modes in certain applications.
