A multiplexed immunoassay is an analytical technique that enables simultaneous measurement of multiple biomarkers or analytes from a single dried blood spot sample. In newborn screening, this approach typically combines different detection technologies such as fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, and electrochemiluminescence to measure various hormones, enzymes, and proteins in one assay run. Multiplexed platforms significantly improve laboratory efficiency by reducing sample consumption, processing time, and cost per test while maintaining or improving analytical performance. Common applications include simultaneous measurement of TSH, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, and immunoreactive trypsinogen, along with emerging biomarkers for additional disorders.
