Full Definition

Electrooculography (EOG) is an electrophysiological test that measures the standing potential difference between the electrically positive cornea and negative retina. The test evaluates the function of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) through light and dark adaptation protocols, producing an Arden ratio that reflects RPE health. EOG is particularly useful in diagnosing conditions affecting the RPE-photoreceptor complex, such as Best disease and other pattern dystrophies, and complements other electrophysiological tests in comprehensive retinal evaluation.
