Electrophysiological test measuring electrical activity in the visual cortex in response to visual stimuli.

Full Definition

Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) is a non-invasive electrophysiological test that measures the electrical activity generated in the visual cortex when the eyes are stimulated with light or pattern stimuli. The test is crucial for assessing the functional integrity of the visual pathway from the retina to the occipital cortex. VEPs are particularly valuable in diagnosing optic nerve disorders, multiple sclerosis, and other demyelinating diseases. The test results show characteristic waveforms with specific latencies and amplitudes that can indicate pathway dysfunction.
