The technique involves stimulating nerves (commonly median, ulnar, or posterior tibial) and recording responses at various levels of the nervous system. Changes in SSEP amplitude or latency can indicate neural pathway compromise, allowing surgeons to modify their approach to prevent permanent neurological deficits.
