Full Definition

Stereotactic electroencephalography (SEEG) is a minimally invasive neurosurgical technique used to record electrical activity directly from brain tissue using depth electrodes placed with stereotactic guidance. Developed by Jean Talairach and Jean Bancaud, SEEG allows precise exploration of deep brain structures and is primarily used for presurgical evaluation in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. The technique involves implanting multiple depth electrodes through small burr holes, enabling three-dimensional mapping of seizure networks. SEEG provides superior spatial resolution compared to surface EEG and can safely access previously inaccessible brain regions.
