Lambda waves are normal, sharply-contoured EEG transients that occur over the occipital regions during active visual exploration or reading. These physiological potentials are time-locked to saccadic eye movements and have a characteristic sharp morphology resembling the Greek letter lambda (λ). Lambda waves are more prominent in children and young adults, diminishing with age. Recognition of these normal variants is crucial to avoid misinterpretation as pathological epileptiform activity.
