Full Definition
SEEG (stereoelectroencephalography) is a minimally invasive technique for recording brain electrical activity using stereotactically implanted depth electrodes. This method allows precise targeting of deep brain structures and provides three-dimensional sampling of seizure networks that may be inaccessible to surface electrodes. SEEG has largely replaced traditional grid electrodes in many epilepsy centers due to lower morbidity and ability to sample bilateral and deep structures simultaneously.
