This monitoring is essential in EEG interpretation as vertical eye movements create characteristic artifacts that can mimic epileptiform activity, particularly in frontal and frontopolar channels. VEOG helps differentiate true cerebral activity from ocular artifacts, especially important when evaluating suspected frontal lobe seizures or when patients have frequent eye movements during recording.
