Immunocytochemistry is a specialized laboratory method that employs specific antibodies to identify and localize particular proteins, peptides, or other antigens within cultured cells or cell preparations. In neuroendocrine research and diagnostics, this technique is extensively used to characterize hormone production, identify neuroendocrine differentiation markers, and study cellular responses to various stimuli. The method involves fixing cells, permeabilizing cell membranes, blocking non-specific binding sites, and then applying primary antibodies followed by detection systems. Immunocytochemistry differs from immunohistochemistry in that it is performed on isolated cells rather than tissue sections, allowing for more controlled experimental conditions.
