Neuroendocrine cells are specialized cells that exhibit characteristics of both neurons and endocrine cells. They receive neural inputs and respond by secreting hormones into the bloodstream or local tissue spaces. These cells are found throughout the body, including the hypothalamus, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and pancreas. They play crucial roles in integrating nervous system signals with hormonal responses.
