Neuroendocrine hyperplasia represents a pathological condition characterized by an increased number of neuroendocrine cells within a given tissue or organ. This condition may be reactive, secondary to chronic inflammation or hormonal stimulation, or it may represent a pre-neoplastic lesion that can progress to neuroendocrine tumor formation. The hyperplasia can be diffuse throughout the tissue or form discrete nodular collections. Diagnosis requires careful morphological assessment and often involves quantitative analysis of neuroendocrine cell density using specific immunohistochemical markers. The clinical significance varies depending on the anatomical site and underlying cause.
