Coregistration is a fundamental image processing technique that aligns multiple neuroimaging datasets into the same coordinate space. This process is essential when combining images acquired at different time points, using different scanning sequences, or from different modalities (such as MRI and PET). Coregistration algorithms use various optimization approaches including rigid body transformations, affine transformations, and non-linear deformations to achieve optimal alignment. Accurate coregistration is crucial for longitudinal studies, multi-modal imaging analysis, and precise localization of pathology across different imaging sessions.
