Field strength refers to the intensity of the static magnetic field in an MRI scanner, measured in Tesla (T), which fundamentally determines image quality, signal-to-noise ratio, and imaging capabilities. Clinical scanners typically operate at 1.5T or 3T, while research systems may use 7T or higher fields. Higher field strengths provide increased spatial resolution and sensitivity for advanced techniques like high-resolution fMRI and diffusion imaging, but also present challenges including increased susceptibility artifacts, radiofrequency heating, and hardware complexity.

Usage note: Express as '1.5T', '3T', '7T' etc. with no space between number and T.
