Post-contrast enhancement refers to the increased signal intensity observed in MRI images after intravenous administration of gadolinium-based contrast agents. Enhancement occurs when contrast agents accumulate in tissues due to increased vascular permeability, hypervascularization, or breakdown of the blood-brain barrier. In neuroimaging, enhancement patterns provide crucial diagnostic information for detecting and characterizing brain tumors, inflammatory processes, infections, and vascular malformations. The degree and pattern of enhancement (ring-like, homogeneous, heterogeneous) help differentiate between various pathological conditions and guide treatment decisions.
