A radiological coordinate system provides a standardized framework for describing spatial locations and orientations in neuroimaging datasets. The most commonly used systems include the radiological convention (where left appears on the right side of axial images) and the neurological convention (where left appears on the left side). Modern neuroimaging predominantly uses standardized coordinate systems such as MNI (Montreal Neurological Institute) or Talairach space, which enable consistent reporting of anatomical locations across studies and institutions. Proper understanding of coordinate systems is essential for accurate image interpretation, surgical planning, and research communication.
