Functional magnetic resonance imaging acquired while the subject is not performing any explicit task.

Full Definition

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) measures brain activity when a person is not performing any specific mental tasks. During these scans, subjects typically lie still with eyes closed or fixated on a cross, allowing researchers to observe the brain's intrinsic functional connectivity patterns. This technique is widely used in neuroinformatics to study default mode networks and brain connectivity disorders.
