Impedance in neuromodulation refers to the opposition to electrical current flow through the electrode-tissue interface, measured in ohms. Normal impedance values vary depending on electrode design, surface area, and tissue characteristics, but typically range from 300-1500 ohms for spinal cord stimulation systems. Abnormally high impedance may indicate lead fracture or poor tissue contact, while very low impedance may suggest insulation breach or short circuit.
