Neurofeedback

A biofeedback technique using real-time brain wave monitoring to train patients to modify their neural activity patterns.

Full Definition

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is a therapeutic intervention that uses real-time monitoring of brain electrical activity to provide feedback to patients, enabling them to learn to modify their brainwave patterns. The technique typically involves placing electrodes on the scalp to measure EEG activity, which is then processed and presented as visual or auditory feedback. Neurofeedback is used to treat conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, and post-traumatic stress disorder by training the brain to produce more optimal patterns of neural activity.

Usage

Usage note: Sometimes hyphenated as 'neuro-feedback' in older literature.
