Motor Unit Number Index (MUNIX) is a relatively new electrodiagnostic technique that provides an estimate of motor unit numbers by analyzing the relationship between compound muscle action potential amplitude and surface EMG interference patterns during voluntary contraction. Unlike traditional motor unit number estimation (MUNE) techniques, MUNIX is less time-consuming and more standardized, making it suitable for routine clinical use and longitudinal monitoring. The technique calculates an index that correlates with motor unit numbers and provides additional information about motor unit size (MUSIX). MUNIX has shown promise in tracking disease progression in motor neuron diseases.
