Full Definition
The Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) is a widely used assessment tool consisting of 11 items that evaluate the core symptoms of mania including elevated mood, increased motor activity, sexual interest, sleep disturbance, irritability, speech rate, language-thought disorder, thought content, disruptive-aggressive behavior, appearance, and insight. Each item is scored on a scale from 0-4 or 0-8, with total scores ranging from 0-60. Higher scores indicate more severe manic symptoms.
