Dynamic splinting involves the fabrication and application of orthotic devices that incorporate moveable components such as springs, elastic bands, or hinges to provide controlled, assisted movement of joints while protecting healing or injured structures. Unlike static splints that hold joints in fixed positions, dynamic splints allow for functional movement within safe ranges while providing therapeutic forces to improve range of motion, prevent contractures, or assist weakened muscles. These devices are commonly used in hand therapy, burn rehabilitation, and neurological conditions where maintaining mobility during healing is crucial for optimal outcomes.
