A break or disruption in Bruch's membrane, the barrier between the retinal pigment epithelium and the choroidal circulation. In ocular oncology, Bruch membrane ruptures may occur due to rapid tumor growth, particularly in choroidal melanomas, or following trauma during surgical manipulation. The rupture can lead to hemorrhage, fibrovascular proliferation, and visual complications. Detection of membrane rupture may influence staging and treatment decisions.
