Full Definition

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) is an advanced imaging modality that uses motion contrast to generate detailed maps of retinal and choroidal vasculature without requiring intravenous dye injection. The technology detects moving red blood cells to create high-resolution angiographic images at different retinal layers, including the superficial and deep capillary plexes. OCT-A has revolutionized the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vascular occlusions by providing quantitative analysis of vessel density and perfusion patterns.
